Lagos Child Abandonment Advocacy Campaign

 A Voice for the Forgotten

GoFuture Foundation hosted a moving advocacy event and book presentation for Chipped Off, a powerful book that sheds light on children abandoned in Nigerian hospitals due to medical, financial, and social pressures.

The event convened child rights advocates, healthcare professionals, and policy influencers to spark a deeper conversation around this urgent social crisis.

The panel discussion, “Let’s Talk About Child Abandonment in Nigeria,” featured Public Health Consultant, Dr Tuyi Mebawondu, Child Protection Specialist and Family Life Practitioner, Mrs Aderonke Oyelakin, and Filmmaker and Screenwriter, Ms Tarywest Tarynson. Together, they
unpacked the multilayered causes of child abandonment, ranging from poverty and disability stigma to lack of social support, and finally emphasized the need for early intervention, family support systems, and a stronger public awareness and involvement.

A highlight of the event was the official unveiling of Chipped Off by Mr Knut Ulvmoen and Mr James Adenuga, both passionate advocates and special guests of honor. Audience engagement peaked during the open-floor discussion and the launch of the Child Abandonment Trust Fund, with guests making donations and pledges in support of abandoned children. Other highlights included book readings by the author Igazeuma Okoroba, a documentary screening of Home Never (a true life story of an abandoned child), and a stirring book review by Literary Curator, Ms. Ijeoma Ucheibe.

This symbolic event was the beginning of a movement. It is a strong reminder that every child deserves acceptance, dignity, and care.

Donate to an abandoned child today and join us as we rewrite this sad story of child abandonment — one child at a time.
